Be As ‘Gods’
Closing paragraph, page 249, The Upper Look.
‘Christ came to this world, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, to bear trial and to become acquainted with disappointment, that He might teach men and women to become like God.’
To become like God….
This immediately brought to mind satan’s first two lies to Eve in the garden. ‘ (Gen 3:4-5)
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
First lie: Thou shalt not surely die.
People today STILL believe this lie. It’s one of the mainstays of the Christian religion. The Bible clearly teaches something else, but people do not like the thought of death. So they choose to cling to a lie. (Topic for another post.)
Second lie: In the day ye eat….ye shall be AS GODS.
See, satan teaches that we become ‘as gods’ through disobedience. God teaches that we become ‘as God’ through obedience to His law.
We become ‘partakers of the Divine Nature‘ with the ‘mind of Christ.’ as we walk in obedience to God’s law. This was Christ’s example. It is why He was sinless. Because He walked in obedience, by relying on God’s strength through the Holy Spirit. {For more verses on the ‘mind of Christ.}
1 John 2:6 ““He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
If Jesus walked in obedience to God’s law, in order to avoid sin (1 John 3:4), ought we not do the same?
Something to think about.
