Learning to Utilize the Power of Prayer

As a review from the last lesson on prayer, we talked about what prayer was. It’s the secret of spiritual power. It is the process of being WITH Christ in order to become LIKE Christ and consequently, live FOR Christ. We talked about various examples Christ gave for prayer. We closed in talking about the types of prayers.

Ephesians: Walk according to the call.

We are in the midst of a powerful universal battle between God and satan. Earth is the battlefield. The war is almost over. Therefore, for us to be victorious in the upcoming days as this great controversy comes to a close, we must become prayer warriors.

Eph 6:12 reminds us of the real enemy.

Luke 12:32

Receiving the kingdom. At the point of salvation, when we accept Christ as our Savior, we are given everything we need to be successful in our Christian walk.

What does it mean to take it by force?

SDA BC, Vol 5, ‘With the great truth we have been privileged to receive, we should, and under the Holy Spirit’s power we could, become living channels of light. We could then approach the mercy seat; and seeing the bow of promise, kneel with contrite hearts, and seek the kingdom of heaven with a spiritual violence that would bring its own reward. We would take it by force, as did Jacob.

To be clear, satan is not just the adversary, he is YOUR adversary. He’s not just the enemy, he is YOUR enemy.

He is not just the liar and thief – he is the one who is lying to YOU and trying to destroy YOU. He keeps telling you that everything is fine as long as you just lie low and don’t do anything to rock the boat.

How do we give place to the devil?

By the books we read, the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the people we hang out with, and even what is brought into our home, such as things that are not healthy for us; that cause us to break God’s health laws.

Ex 12:25

Don’t leave home without the whole armor. Don’t turn on your TV without it, open a book, talk without it.

Your actions, words, and deeds will be evil without your armor. Everything we do and say must be under the Control of Christ. Prayer puts God’s armor on us.

Heb 13:15

Putting up a barrier against satan’s barbs through songs of praise.
