A Different Perspective on the law of God
Looking at the Ten Commandments from a different viewpoint:
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage (from the world/bondage of sin)
You will not have any other gods before me (nothing is to be of more importance in your life than doing My will).
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, You will not make any graven image to worship (as pagans do).
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will respect my name, not using it in vain (or not living up to the responsibility of being called a child of God).
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will set aside the 7th day so we can spend the day in relationship. You will rest in my provision, without worry as to how bills will be paid, or problems resolved. All in your home will come apart from all other cares and responsibilities to rest in Me.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will honor and respect and care for your parents throughout your life. These are the adults I gave to you for guidance. You are to treat them respectfully in order to experience the fullness of life.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will respect the sanctity of life. Only I am to judge when life is to end.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will respect the marriage relationship you have committed to, you will honor the boundaries of others. You will execute self-control over animal passions and treat your body respectfully.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will respect the boundaries of others’ belongings. I will provide you with what you need. Learn self-control and to use the abilities I gave you to meet your physical needs.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will learn to control your tongue and only speak truth. You will protect the reputation of those around you, not spreading untruth. Satan is the father of lies, so therefore, as my child, you will speak truth and avoid listening to lies.
BECAUSE I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, you will be content with what has been provided for you, rather than focusing on what I have not chosen to give you. I provide different things to everyone. Each of you will be tested on different points. Be content with what I have provided, and focus on the work I have given you to do.
**We often consider the ten commandments as a long list of don’ts. However, it’s really a statement of how we will live because God loved us so much to bring us out of the bondage of sin, away from the sinful world. Because of His love for us, in giving us Christ to demonstrate His love by dying on the cross to pay the price of OUR sin, then we want to show Him OUR love, by walking in obedience to His law.
James 1:25 describes God’s law as the law of liberty, not as bondage. By walking in obedience (John 14:15), we are freed from sin (1John 3:4), free from the lusts of the flesh.
