Moving ahead in recovery
Recovery is wonderful. Today was an interesting day. Full and busy.
First I went to my Toastmasters meeting where I met one of the state’s Senator canidates. He found out I was a writer. He asked me if I could do some PR work for him. I told him I had done some in the past. He is supposed to contact me in the next couple of days with details.
This made me very happy. Anything dealing with furthering my writing career makes me happy. Doing PR work isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but I can do it.
What really made my day and why I titled this ‘moving ahead in recovery’ is what followed. I met with a friend of mine who is director of Deaf Services at the local library.
Let me back up. I was at the Deaf Club meeting this last weekend. I am involved with that. I was nominated as secretary of the club. After the club meeting was over, I talked to the director about the sign classes she taught at the local college.
Today I went to meet with her and discuss in more detail the classes. I also discussed the desire I have to pursue a Masters Degree in Psychology. This is a big decision for me. It has been 18 yrs since I have been in school. This lady is going to help me get everything going so I can get into her sign class. I will also take classes I need to prepare to go into the Masters program for the Psychology Degree.
I want to help those who are mentally ill. I want to show them the way to recovery. I want to do that with my writing, and perhaps some counseling some time during the future.
Big dreams I know. But I have complete faith I can accomplish them. My biggest problem is going to be paying for the classes. I don’t want to go into further debt. So I will take a few classes at a time as I can pay for them.
I am searching out scholarships right now that I can apply for. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. I definitely have a will. I will find a way.
How are you moving ahead in recovery? What have you found life has offered you since you have recovered?
