Important documents

If we had to leave our homes with little notice, we would not want to lose important document information.

Examples:

Birth certificates

Medical records

Insurance information

Family contact information (more on this next time)

What I recommend is to create a ‘grab-n-go’ binder. This is a large 3-ring binder with copies of important documents. I recommend keeping them in protective sheets.

Your grab-n-go binder can also have printed directions to your alternative shelter. It can contain your evacuation lists. It can contain information for soothing a child with special needs. It can contain copies of receipts of your high-value items.

It would be wise to keep this near your BOB so it can be ‘grabbed’ in a few seconds. We do not want to have to go hunting down the binder. I would also make it of a noticeable color.

A family can assign this duty to an older child, while another child will be responsible for grabbing the dog’s BOB.

This is why practice is essential.

In my book, Living Ready Emergency Preparedness System Binder, I have examples of what type of information can be contained in this binder.

It’s hard to replace important documents if they are lost due to fire or flood (or tornado/hurricane). It’s best to make copies NOW and have things ready. Because it’s not IF, but WHEN an event occurs.

Your challenge today is to find a large 3-ring binder and begin making copies of your important documents.

I share more information on this topic in my Emergency Preparedness classes on my Skool page, Living Ready Collective.

One small step at a time is how we become Living Ready.

One day. One step. One family better prepared.
